Cultural Heritage Trip of Kalaburagi

On November 14, 2024, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FoET) at Khaja Bandanawaz University (KBNU), organized an engaging "Cultural Heritage Trip of Kalaburagi" for the students of 3rd semesters. Initially scheduled for 7th November, the trip was postponed to 14th November due to the sad demise of  the University’s esteemed Hon'ble Chancellor. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., this trip aligned with the department’s "Social Connect and Responsibility" initiative, intending to foster awareness of Kalaburagi’s cultural history among students.


Accompanied by faculty coordinators, students explored prominent historic sites in Kalaburagi. Their first stop was Khaja Bandanawaz Darga, where students delved into the legacy of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Bandanawaz Gesudaraz. Here, they learned about the saint’s impact on the local community and the principles of Sufism, deepening their appreciation for the spiritual and cultural heritage of the region.


The second destination was Gulbarga Fort, ,the students visited  a historical gem from the Bahmani era. At the fort, they explored elements of Persian and Indian architectural design in medieval military construction, while faculty members highlighted the fort’s strategic importance in the Deccan region’s history. This visit offered students a closer look at the blending of diverse cultural influences that define Kalaburagi’s heritage.


The next destination was Appa Temple, where students gained insight into Karnataka’s religious traditions and architectural beauty. This site served as an introduction to the state’s rich religious practices and distinctive architectural styles, fostering respect for local customs and history.

 

The final site, Buddha Vihar, introduced students to Buddhist teachings and underscored the area’s cultural diversity. The peaceful atmosphere at Buddha Vihar inspired reflections on Kalaburagi’s inclusive and varied heritage.


The university provided lunch, facilitating interaction among students and faculty across semesters. A special cake-cutting ceremony was also held in celebration of Children’s Day, adding a festive note to the day’s proceedings. Overall, this heritage trip was an enriching educational experience, fostering social awareness and deepening students' understanding of their cultural roots.


Students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect with Kalaburagi’s history, feeling a stronger sense of community and responsibility toward preserving this heritage. The trip concluded with lasting memories and strengthened bonds within the university community.
