International Women’s Day 2025

International Women’s Day 2025, organized by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Sciences, Law and Commerce, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi was celebratedfor two days on 10th and 11th March, 2025. The celebration featuredsix sessions from resource persons across different specializations and 250 students had participated students from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Languages, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Commerce & Management and Faculty of Education.


Day 1: 10th March 2025

The event commenced with an Inauguration Ceremony at 10:30 AM. Dr. Jawed Akhter, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Media, graced the occasion as the Master of Ceremony, eloquently elucidating the profound background and significance of International Women’s Day. The inaugural function presided over by Prof. Nishat Arif Hussini, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Sciences, Law and Commerce, Khaja Bandanawaz University. The chief Guest was Mrs. Maheshwari, who serves as the Principal of Seth Shankarlal Lahoti Law College, Kalaburagi. Dr. Neelam Mishra, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology welcomed the Chief Guest, Convener, organizing committee and distinguished gathering. The Chief Guest and Convener of the event elegantly watered the plant. Ms. Lubna Tanveer, Coordinator and Head, Department of Law, elegantly introduced the esteemed Chief Guest, Mrs. Maheshwari to the attendees. Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini delivered the presidential address and Mrs. Maheshwari addressed the audience. Dr. Sameena Sindagikar, Coordinator and Head, Department of Sociology elegantly delivered the vote of thanks for all the dignitaries on stage, faculty members and students.


Session I - Women’s Rightsby Dr. Maheshwari: The need for inclusive action to ensure equal rights, power and opportunities for all women and girls globally. It is necessary to combat all forms of violence, discrimination and exploitation against women and girls.It emphasizes the importance of empowering young women and girls as change agents and addressing emerging challenges such as climate justice and digital inclusion. There is a need to dismantle systemic barriers, transform entrenched inequities and elevate the voices of marginalized women and girls to ensure inclusivity and empowerment.

  

Session II - Panel Discussion on Financial Literacyby Faculty of Commerce and Management: Chairperson: Dr. K. S. Srinivas Rao, Dean - FoC

  • Importance of Personal Finance and Wealth Management: Dr. Jyothi Tegnoor highlighted the significance of creating a solid financial plan, emphasizing practical strategies to manage income, expenses and savings effectively.

  • Investment Strategies: Dr. Savita Patildiscussed various investment avenues such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds, stressing the importance of diversification and long-term planning to minimize risks.

  • Emergency Funds and Insurance: Dr. Adil Sidagikar emphasized the necessity of having a safety net through emergency funds and adequate insurance coverage to protect against unexpected financial situations.

  • Responsible Borrowing: Mr. Abdul Razak advised on responsible borrowing practices and the critical importance of managing debt efficiently, ensuring that borrowing does not lead to financial strain.

  • Stock Market Investments: Mrs. Iffat Nigar provided insights into stock market investments, discussing risks, rewards, portfolio management and the value of research before making investment decisions.

  • Taxation and Financial Planning: Mrs. Amatul Habeeb explained how taxes impact financial planning, offering tax-saving strategies and the importance of understanding tax laws to optimize financial outcomes.

  • Interactive Q&A Session: The event concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to engage with the panel members, seek clarifications and gain further insights into the discussed topics.


Session III - Speechby Students:

  • The session encouraged active participation and engagement from students, fostering a sense of community and shared commitment to advancing women's rights and opportunities in India

  • The session emphasized on "Accelerate Action," urging concrete steps towards gender equality and empowerment. It underscored the need for rapid advancements in closing gender gaps in various sectors, including education, employment and leadership roles.

  • It featured the women who have broken barriers and achieved excellence in their respective fields, providing role models for students. It also highlighted the importance of perseverance, leadership and the impact of women in shaping the future of India.

  • The session highlighted the contributions of several influential women in Indian history, including Rani Lakshmi Bai, Mary Kom, Saniya Mirza. The women have made significant strides in various fields such as politics, science, sports and business, serving as inspirations for future generations.

  • Papa kiPari, Papa ki Darling; instead, be Papa kiSherni". This metaphorical statement was meant to inspire women to embrace their inner strength and not rely on being seen as delicate or in need of constant protection. Instead, they should strive to be strong and capable, like a tigress, ready to face any challenge that comes their way.

  • The session ended with a sense of empowerment and a renewed commitment to self-defence among the participants.


Day 2: 11th March 2025

Session IV - Affirmative action for Women: India’s Experienceby Dr. Atungbou N: He elaborated that affirmative action in India has been a crucial tool for promoting gender equality, social equity, social justice and empowering women. The legal framework has been instrumental in implementing various affirmative action policies aimed at enhancing women's participation in different spheres of life. One of the most significant affirmative action measures in India is the reservation of seats for women in local governance. In the field of education and employment, affirmative action policies have been implemented to ensure greater representation of women. Reservations in educational institutions and government jobs have helped in increasing the enrollment and employment rates of women.Despite these challenges, affirmative action remains a vital strategy for promoting gender equality in India. It has not only increased women's participation in various sectors but also contributed to changing societal attitudes towards women's roles and capabilities.


Session V– Self Defence by Zunaira Tahreem and Abubakar: Ms. Zunaira Tahreem, a Taekwondo martial artist conducted a self-defence session, where she showcased various techniques from Taekwondo. With the assistance of Abubakar, a fellow martial artist, she demonstrated a series of moves designed to empower women and girls to protect themselves in challenging situations.

  • The session began with an introduction to the basic stances and blocks, followed by more advanced techniques such as kicks and punches.

  • Ms. Zunaira emphasized the importance of confidence and mental strength, explaining that self-defence is not just about physical prowess but also about being aware of one's surroundings and making quick decisions.

  • Throughout the session, Ms. Zunaira highlighted the misconception that women are physically weaker than men. She demonstrated how, with proper training and technique, women can effectively defend themselves against larger opponents.

  • In her concluding remarks, Ms. Tahreem delivered a powerful message: "Don't be Papa kiPari, Papa ki Darling; instead, be Papa kiSherni". This metaphorical statement was meant to inspire women to embrace their inner strength and not rely on being seen as delicate or in need of constant protection. Instead, they should strive to be strong and capable, like a tigress, ready to face any challenge that comes their way.

Session VI– Health and Nutrition by Dr. Arundhati Patil: Dr. Arundhati Patil, a renowned paediatrics shared several key tips to promote a healthier lifestyle through mindful cooking and eating habits.

  • One of her primary recommendations was the frequent changing of cooking oil. She emphasized that using fresh oil each time you cook helps to avoid the harmful effects of repeatedly heating the same oil, which can lead to the formation of toxic compounds.

  • Dr. Arundhati also advised using cold-pressed oils, which are extracted without the use of heat or chemicals, thereby retaining more of their natural nutrients and flavours.

  • In addition to her oil recommendations, Dr. Arundhati stressed the importance of using local vegetables in cooking. By choosing locally sourced produce, individuals can ensure that they are consuming fresh, seasonal ingredients that are free from harmful pesticides and preservatives.

  • She further suggested maintaining a backyard garden to grow your own vegetables, which not only provides a sustainable source of fresh produce but also encourages a deeper connection with the food you eat.

  • For new mothers, Dr. Arundhati highlighted the benefits of breastfeeding for infants, emphasizing that it provides essential nutrients and antibodies that are crucial for a baby's development and immune system.

  • She also recommended incorporating millets into the diet, as these ancient grains are rich in fibre, protein and various micronutrients.

  • To further promote a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Arundhati advised against the consumption of refined flour (Maida) and sugar, which are often linked to various health issues such as obesity and diabetes.

  • Lastly, she urged people to avoid using plastic materials while eating, as they can leach harmful chemicals into food and contribute to environmental pollution. By following these guidelines, individuals can take significant steps towards a healthier and more sustainable way of living.
