National Road Safety Month - 2025 Awareness Programme

On 29th Jan 2025 to mark National Road Safety Month, an awareness program was conducted at Hagargah Cross, Ring Road, Kalaburagi, by the Department of Community under the guidance of Dr. Guruprasad Sir, Dean, FOMS, KBNU focusing on educating the public about road traffic safety measures. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of adhering to road safety rules, reducing accidents, and promoting responsible behavior among drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

 

National Road Safety Month is observed every year across India to honor the efforts to improve road safety and reduce road fatalities. This program was a key part of the larger effort to create a safer road environment in Kalaburagi and raise consciousness among the local community.

 

The key objectives of the awareness program were as follows:

  • To educate people about the importance of following traffic rules and regulations.

  • To highlight the dangers of speeding, drunk driving, distracted driving, and not wearing helmets or seat belts.

  • To increase awareness about pedestrian safety and the need for safe crossings.

  • To promote the use of helmets, seat belts, and other safety gear.

  • To provide information on traffic laws, penalties, and the rights and duties of road users.

  • To collaborate with local authorities, schools, and NGOs in spreading road safety awareness.

 

Target Audience:

The program was designed to reach a broad audience, including Daily Commuters (Motorcyclists, Car Drivers, Bus Drivers), Pedestrians, School Children And College Students, Local Residents And Businesses

 

Activities done:

1. Helmet and Seat Belt Checking: student, interns and traffic police officers set up a checkpoint to ensure that motorcyclists and car occupants were wearing helmets and seat belts. Those not complying were given safety pamphlets and briefed on the importance of these measures.

2. Flyers, pamphlets, and posters highlighting road safety tips and local traffic laws were distributed to commuters and pedestrians by the interns and students

3. Students and interns helped the traffic police in managing the traffic by making people follow traffic signal, showing them posters on consequences of rash driving and raising road safety awareness slogan.

After the program posters and placards were handed over to traffic police to use them for creating awareness about the road traffic safety rules. Traffic Police appreciated our efforts and encouraged us to conduct such awareness activities frequently.
