On 20th November 2024 The inaugural function of the workshop began with a recitation of holy Quran by Dr. S. M. Mohiuddin Sarmast, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at FOET. Dr. Mohd Nazeeruddin delivered a welcome speech and outlined the objectives of the workshop. Dr. Vishaldatt introduced.
the chief guest and guests of honor. Dr. Devdas G Maley delivered key note address. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohd Siraj Ahmed, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department. The program is hosted by Prof. Md. Yousuf Ahmed Asst. Professor, Electronics & Communication Engineering Faculty of Engineering and Technology, KBN University
Workshop session 1: IPR fundamentals
Dr. Devidas G Maley in his peech told that discoveries led to inventions. Inventions generally make our lives easier. Further he said creators and innovators worldwide use IP to translate their ideas into assets. These properties create economic and social benefits that improve the lives of people everywhere. Intellectual Property (IP) protects the invention by granting patents. Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. IPR plays a crucial role in the development of industry, commerce and trade and in the growth of creative effort in almost every field of human endeavour. Later discussed the 7 types of intellectual property rights, namely – copyright, trademarks, patents, geographical indications, plant varieties, industrial designs and semiconductor integrated circuit layout designs.
Workshop session 2: Patent filling process
Er. Varun Bhatt in his session elaborate the different types of patents in India. He has shown the portal for applying the patent. https://ipindia.gov.in/aboutus.htm. He explained various types of patent applications and difference
Dr. Devdas G Maley in his speech told that discoveries led to inventions.
Er. Varun Bhatt informed about the list of Documents required for Filing a Patent Application in India. He discussed the form1, form 2, form 5 and other forms formats and details to be furnished in them. He also informed about e filing of patent. Further he what are benefits of IP and how they impact their career. He discussed about maximum limits of each type of intellectual properties. Workshop session 3: Case studies and IP
Commercialization
Jeurkar, started his session by explaining a Case Study of Cervical Vertebrae Expandable Cage, Adjuster and Curvature Maintainer (CVGFA-CM). this particular patent is in his name along with Dr D B Katikar a orthopaedist by profession. He described how engineering and medical science come out with solution for the patents implanted with artificial joint. He discussed how they over the issues during patenting their product.
In his second part of session on IP Commercialization he said, merely acquiring a patent does not guarantee the product’s or process’s commercial success in the market. It always requires one push from the inventor to create the demand for the patented invention. The Patent Office has no role beyond grant of patent. Since patents are private rights the patent owner is responsible for commercializing the patent either himself or through licensee. However, the information relating to grant of patent is published in the Patent Office journal and also published on the Patent Office website which is accessible to the public worldwide. This may help the applicant to attract potential user or licensee. The patent office also compiles and updates a list of patents which are lapsed / ceased in India. He discussed methods of Commercialization namely, Selling the Patent, Licensing the Patent and Manufacturing /Outsourcing the Production of Invented Patent. Further discussed advantages and limitations of each.
Workshop session 4: IPR famous cases and Online courses on IPR
Dr vishaldatt kohir said in speech that, reputed companies invest in research and development of new technology and products. They create more open innovation models (such as GE, Samsung and Tesla), They can’t afford to just give their inventions away to competitors. The IPR protect their innovations.
He quoted five world-famous technologies and the patents related cases. Motorola Vs Apple vs Samsung and Google: In 2010, as smartphones became increasingly integral to our daily lives, Apple found itself in a legal dispute with Samsung over alleged infringement of patent protection rights related to their phone products. Interestingly, Apple's primary concern wasn't just Samsung but also Google's Android software, which powered Samsung's phones and those of other third-party manufacturers. He said similar in 2007, Viacom lodged a claim against YouTube. Adidas vs Thom Browne had a dispute over trade mark. He said in this IPR helps in protecting the inventors or innovators.
He further said all famous online learning portals offer basic and advance courses on there portal. Ungrad offers free course on IPR. Udemy, NPTEL, Coursera, and Swayam portal also offer courses on IPR. learning is free to get certificate they have to pat fee. A certificate on IPR may fetch better opportunity in their career.
He said startups, with limited resources and manpower, can sustain themselves in this highly competitive world only through continuous growth and development-orientated innovations; for this, it is equally crucial that they protect their IPRs. The scheme for Startups Intellectual Property Protection (SIPP) is envisaged to facilitate the protection of Patents, Trademarks and Designs of innovative and interested Startups in India and outside.
Feedback
The participant Mr Sadique Ali gave feedback speech. In his feedback he said he was not aware of intellectual proprieties. He gained knowledge of IPR.
