On 20th Feb 2025 The Post Graduate(PG) Orientation Program was organized by Medical Education Unit, for the MD/MS students, batch 2024-2025 admitted to Faculty of Medical Sciences, KBN University. This program was conducted to orient the Post graduate students- the rules and regulation of KBN University, its academic environment, facilities and NMC’s Post graduate Medical Education Board guidelines. The event was aimed to ease the transition into post graduate studies by providing key insights, resources and networking opportunities. Dr. Sushma D S, Coordinator, Medical Education Unit welcomed the dignitaries and Post graduate students for the orientation program. In the ice breaking session the post graduate students introduced themselves to the gathering.
The scientific session started with Rules & Regulations of KBN University. The student discipline, academic responsibilities, and conduct in FOMS and KBNTG&H were outlined by Dr. Guruprasad K Y and Dr. Siddling Chengty. Dr. Zainab Ghazala provided insights into structuring a research protocol effectively. Importance of clarity in research objectives, methodology, and ethical considerations was emphasized. Dr. Md Mohsin Ahmed discussed how to define a research topic with clear aims and objectives, ensuring that research questions are specific and achievable were the key points. Dr. Shehnaz Shaheen covered strategies for conducting a thorough literature review. Various study designs and their relevance to different types of medical research were discussed. Dr. Balakrishna provided statistical insights into selecting the appropriate sample size and sampling methods. Understanding the role of statistical power in research was highlighted.
Dr. Sushma D.S guided students on proper research methodology and citation practices. Emphasis was placed on referencing credible sources to maintain academic integrity. Dr. Zama Moosvi explained the importance of accurate medical documentation and its legal implications. Ethical considerations in medico-legal cases were also discussed. Dr. S. H Vardhamane highlighted ethical principles in medical research. The significance of maintaining integrity, patient confidentiality, and ethical approval for studies was reinforced. The program provided an opportunity for new PG students to interact with faculty and peers. Encouragement to engage in research collaborations and continuous learning was a key takeaway.
The Post graduate orientation program successfully achieved its goals leaving post graduates well prepared for the academic challenges ahead. The program concluded with group photograph with post graduate students and resource faculty.
