Three Days Lecture Series on “To Know and Meet Law Department” Day - 2

On 13th November 2024, the much-anticipated Day-2 of the Consumer Protection Series was successfully conducted at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Law, Khaja Bandanawaz University, Kalaburagi. This series was organized to provide an in-depth understanding of Consumer Protection Laws, the Role of Courts in Consumer Disputes, and the Rights of Consumers.

 

The event began at 2:00 PM, with the proceedings anchored by Md. Mustafa Ayub, a student of LL.B-3 Years, and Ameena Fatima, a student of LL.B-3 Years. The anchors welcomed the audience and introduced the objective of the session, setting the stage for a productive discussion on consumer rights.

 

The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Ameena Fatima, who introduced the esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Maheshwari Hiremath, a distinguished expert in consumer protection laws. Following this, Md. Mustafa Ayub delivered an introductory presentation on the guest speaker, highlighting Dr. Hiremath’s extensive experience in the field of consumer rights and advocacy.

 

The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Dr. Maheshwari Hiremath, who discussed the Challenges in Enforcement & Access, as well as the Emerging Trends in Consumer Protection. In her address, Dr. Hiremath elaborated on the significant challenges consumers face in accessing justice, particularly in the context of enforcing consumer protection laws. She discussed the difficulties in navigating legal processes, the delayed resolution of cases, and the lack of adequate consumer awareness, all of which hinder consumers from asserting their rights effectively.

 

Dr. Hiremath also highlighted the emerging trends in the field of consumer protection, particularly the challenges posed by e-commerce, digital transactions, and cross-border consumer disputes. She emphasized the need for updated laws to address issues such as online fraud, misleading advertising, and the protection of consumer data in the digital age. Dr. Hiremath concluded by stressing the importance of continuous education and awareness programs to empower consumers in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.

 

After the keynote address, the session transitioned into an interactive Q&A session, where the audience had the opportunity to ask Dr. Hiremath questions related to consumer protection laws, the evolving challenges in enforcement, and the impact of technology on consumer rights. Dr. Hiremath answered each query with clarity, providing practical advice and solutions to common consumer issues.

 

Following the interactive session, Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Khaja Bandanawaz University, addressed the gathering. In her speech, Prof. Hussaini reflected on the success of the day’s event and reiterated the importance of educating students and the general public about consumer rights. She praised the organizing team for their efforts and expressed her appreciation for Dr. Hiremath’s valuable insights.

 

The event culminated with a felicitation ceremony, where Dr. Maheshwari Hiremath was honored for her contribution to the field of consumer protection by Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini. The ceremony was a moment of recognition and appreciation for Dr. Hiremath’s invaluable work in advocating for consumer rights.

 

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Syeda Sania, a student of LL.B-3 Years, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Hiremath, the faculty, and all the participants for their contributions to the success of the event. The session ended on a positive note, leaving the attendees with a deeper understanding of consumer protection laws and the evolving challenges in the field.

 

The second day of the series was a resounding success, providing students and participants with practical knowledge on how consumer protection laws operate, the obstacles consumers face, and the emerging trends in the digital age. Dr. Maheshwari Hiremath’s expertise and insights left a lasting impression, inspiring attendees to become more proactive in safeguarding their consumer rights.
