World Sparrow Day and World Water Day Events

To create awareness among students and the local community about the declining population of sparrows and the need for conservation of common bird species.


To initiating regularly various awareness programs by which environmental cum wildlife conservation skills were developed in students and local communities.


The Department of Zoology, backed by Khaja Bandanawaz University, has organized 2 two-day awareness campaign from 4 to 5 April 2025 as a mark of initiative towards the conservation of sparrows and water.


The awareness campaign began with a walkathon by a group of 20 students, accompanied by faculty members and our enthusiastic guest speaker, Prof. Kumara Swamy N.


The campaign was inaugurated at the administrative block of the university by Mr. Mir Vilayat Ali, Registrar of KBN University. Thereafter, the team visited the various faculties, and there, their respective deans joined the campaign and served water and grains in the bowls pre-installed on the trees.


The walkathon ended in the B.Ed. building with Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini.

 

Guest Speaker 1: Dr. Kumar Swamy N: “Protecting Sparrows: A Call for Conservation”

Importance of Sparrows in Ecosystems:

  • Sparrows are bioindicators – their presence reflects a healthy environment.

  • They help control insect populations and aid seed dispersion.

 

Guest Speaker 2: Dr. Antoney PU.:“Strategies to conserve the sparrow & Water”

Emphasize sustainability, conservation, and coexistence with nature.

  • He inspires action at the individual, community, and policy levels.

  • Small daily efforts like sparrow feeders or water-saving habits can have a large environmental impact.

 

The event included talks on ‘Protecting sparrows and water conservation’ by the resource persons. Along with competitions making the best bird feeder, Slogan, and Video making.
